Updated: Aug 22, 2022

If you can tear yourself away from our hammocks and hot tubs, here are a few of the great events taking place nearby this summer. Concerts, balloon fiestas, battle re-enactments, outdoor theatre and much much more!

JULY

It's a music feast for starters with Tears for Fears, Tom Grennan, Ella Henderson, Bryan Adams and Feeder all in town for concerts at Telford Town Park 1-3 July.

Next up it’s The Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay which passes through Shrewsbury on 18 July. There’s a free evening of entertainment at The Quarry with live music, sports and arts taster sessions, stalls and delicious food and drink! This celebration event is free but please reserve a ticket in advance.

Also in July is the BBC Antiques Roadshow at the spectacular Powis Castle. A ticketed event on 19 July and a great opportunity to explore the truly beautiful grounds.

The Battle of Shrewsbury Medieval Weekend takes place on 23-24 July at Battlefield 1403. A great family day out with knights in armour and archers preparing for battle, plus living history including traditional crafts and cookery. Enjoy watching jousting matches, live Battle reenactments and try out many historical activities. There will be a market area, plus local crafts, and each day will end with the Battle of Shrewsbury itself where you can choose sides - the rebel army or the King himself!

AUGUST

August 6-7 is the Vintage Transport Extravaganza at the Severn Valley Railway. A wonderful festival of transport bringing together the best of vintage vehicles across the ages for a bumper weekend. There'll be cars, tractors, buses, motorbikes, steam locomotives and diesel engines all on show for a fascinating day out. Start your journey at any station and explore vehicles through the ages whilst travelling on the train. And don’t forget, if you travel between Kidderminster and Bewdley, you’ll pass West Midlands Safari Park too!

Also in August is the War of the Roses Battle Re-entactment at nearby Whittington Castle. The re-enactment groups bring to life the 15th Century in a weekend of living history, displays, games and 'fighting'. 13-14th August.

25th August sees the Lord Chamberlain’s Men bring their wonderful outdoor theatre performance of Shakespeare’s As you Like It to Shrewsbury Castle. Pack a picnic and chairs and enjoy a magical evening.
